The Southern Transitional Council Sends Humanitarian Aids Campaigns to Al-Mehra to Face Diverse Effects of Laban Hurricane
[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Socotra – Exclusive [/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] Al-Mehra, on the Eastern borders with Oman, is the second biggest southern governorate with population that reaches 90 thousand persons. At the beginning of October, Laban Hurricane, a first-grade storm, hit the Arab Sea on October 6th and with winds of 120-150 kmph threatening Oman and Al-Mehra.
In response to this disaster, the southern transitional council formed field teams to visit Al-Mehra and start a humanitarian aids campaigns for affected citizens there. The commission, headed by Dr. Sohair Ali Ahmed, member of the council’s presidency, with membership of Hassan Al-Mahdi, vice chairman of local leadership of Al-Mehra, and members of the national assembly, started with Al-Ghaida as sector (1) while Huswin and Kushen came in sector (2) and Saihout and Al-Musaila came in sector (3). Damages were estimated to provide affected citizens with urgent aids.
The commission met local leadership in Al-Mehra and discussed the mechanism for providing humanitarian aids to affected citizens in addition to organizational structure of the commission, data bases and distribution of affected geographic zones. The meeting also set a schedule for damage calculation in affected directorates. The commission decided to start distributing aids as soon as inspection and damage calculation was ended.
