The Transitional Council: The criminal incident against prisoner Habtoor is an act of blatant violation of international charters and laws
The Southern Transitional Council issued a statement of condemnation through the Human Rights Department of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Transitional Council, for the criminal incident committed against the captive young man, Salim Saleh Saeed Habtoor, who was tortured by the Muslim Brotherhood in one of its prisons in Shabwa governorate until he died,
calling on the concerned judicial authorities to hold accountable those involved in this crime which is against humanitarian norms and laws.
The Statement:
With great regret and anxiety, the Human Rights Department of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council followed the actions of the Brotherhood militias affiliated with the legitimate government in Shabwa governorate in kidnapping and torturing to death the young man, Yeslam Saleh Saeed Habtoor, 32 years old, who belongs to the Shabwani elite.
Since this act considered a blatant violation of all international charters and laws which in its entirety provided for the protection of the human right to life, the Human Rights Department of the Transitional Council condemns in the strongest terms this criminal act, and call on relevant judicial authorities for the speedy accountability and trial of those found to be involved in these criminal acts, and applying deterrent penalties to serve as an example to all those who seek to target security and safety in Shabwa governorate and the rest of the southern governorates.
The Human Rights Department of the General Secretariat of the Southern Transitional Council calls on the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and other international organizations to put an end to such inhumane acts incompatible with the terms of international law.
It also calls on all southern civil society organizations to support civilian citizens and stand by them in the face of those who commit acts that affect their lives and their civil and political rights, by monitoring and documenting these grave violations carried out and demanding not to allow its perpetrators to go unpunished.
