The office of the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths, on Sunday, issued a statement commenting on the missile attack that targeted an army camp in Marib governorate on Saturday.
Griffiths condemned the escalation of military activities in the governorates of Sana’a, Saada, and Marib, as reports stated air strikes and missiles and land attacks took place.
The statement added: a particular concern is the air attack that was said to have targeted the Independence Military Camp in the city of Marib, killing at least eighty soldiers, according to preliminary statistics.
Griffiths warned: “I have said before that the progress in Yemen which has made hardly with reducing escalation is very fragile, such measures may hinder this progress. I urge all parties to stop the escalation now and direct their energies away from the military front towards politics. ”
Griffiths said in the statement: “The negotiating tables are more effective than the battlefields in resolving the conflict”.
