UN Delegate Offers Al-Houthis Two Choices: To Surrender Al-Hodeida to UN or to Continue War

[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Al-Arabia Al-Yemenia – Sanaa – Agencies [/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] UN delegate to Yemen, Martin Griffith, arrived at Sanaa in a new tour started last Thursday with a meeting with President Abd Rabu Mansour Hady and a number of his ministers. Yemeni political sources indicated that Griffith will meet a number of Al-Houthi militia leaders and officials in the unrecognized coup government tomorrow to discuss arrangement for reviving political solution according the vision the Griffith will introduce to UN Security Council on June 7th.
On top of the issues discussed comes avoiding military clash in Al-Hodeida city and port through convincing Al-Houthis to withdraw and surrender the city to UN supervision. UN delegate’s visit came with reports of Yemeni local sources indicating that Al-Houthis prevent citizens from leaving Al-Hodeida. This increases the risk of using them as human shields, in addition to deploying heavy military vehicles north of the city.
Field sources of the joint troops indicated to Middle East Agency that zero hour for breaking into the city is very close. It is expected to be a quick flash operation over more than one axis and with extensive aerial and naval cover.
UN ships will start during the next few hours an evacuation operation of international and aid organizations’ officials from Al-Hodeida. According to Sputnik, a naval source in Al-Hodeida seaport indicated that a ship of the International Organization of Migration (IOM) will leave the port carrying all officials of international and aid organizations and their families to neighboring country because of fierce armed clashes between Yemeni army and Al-Houthi militias in the costal governorate.
