While Meeting with British Ambassador, President Al-Zubaidi Calls for Urgent Int’l and Regional Intervention to Save the Collapsing Economy

The president of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, met t at his residence in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday Mr. Richard Oppenheim, Ambassador of the United Kingdom (Britain) to Yemen.
The meeting discussed the latest political, military, and humanitarian developments in our country and the endeavors made by the UN special envoy to extend the truce, along with regional and international efforts to bring peace to the region in light of the continuous escalation of the Houthi militia and its rejection of all peace initiatives.
The meeting touched on the deteriorating economic situation in our country as a result of the Houthi attacks on oil facilities that represent the backbone of the economy. In this context, President Al-Zubaidi called on the regional and international community to urgently intervene to tackle the collapsing economic situation, noting that true peace begins with saving the lives of citizens and protecting economic facilities from the Houthi terrorist attacks that put millions of lives at stake.
President Al-Zubaidi, too, called on Britain to play a greater role in mobilizing economic assistance for our country and providing more support to protect economic facilities to enable the PLC and the government to resume the oil production and export process, reiterating the demand of the British government and the ten countries sponsoring the political process to expedite re-opening their embassies in the capital, Aden.
For his part, the British ambassador reiterated his country’s support for the PLC and for international endeavours aimed at achieving security and stability and reaching a comprehensive political process that ends the conflict and establishes a just and sustainable peace in the region, affirming the British government’s keenness to support all efforts aimed at reviving the economy and assisting the government of our country to perform its duties in providing services to citizens.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, director of the General Directorate for Foreign Affairs (GDFA) of the STC and head of the Consultation and Reconciliation Committee of the PLC, Mr. Imad Mohammed, office director of the deputy head of the PLC, and Mr. Saleh Al-Quaiti, representative of GDFA.
