Board of Directors of the Basketball Federation approves considering Palestinian player as local starting from current season
SMA NEWS – ADEN THE CAPITAL
The Board of Directors of the Yemeni Basketball Federation unanimously approved the approval of the Palestinian player as a local player in all tournaments organized by the Federation or its branches in the governorates for the junior and men categories, due to the circumstances suffered by the brotherly Palestinian people and their exposure to an unjust war and mass extermination, which led to the suspension of Palestinian leagues, most notably the Premier Basketball League, and the cessation of most Palestinian national team players from practicing the game at the present time.
Palestinian players will be able to participate with any approved Yemeni clubs and practice basketball according to the terms and conditions applied to register local players starting from the current season 2024 and according to the general regulations for competitions and the approved tournament, provided that this decision is effective from the date of its issuance.
The Yemeni Basketball Federation’s decision to adopt the Palestinian player as a local player comes in accordance with the Palestinian Federation’s letter to the Arab Federation, which was addressed by the President of the Palestinian Basketball Federation, Mr. Ibrahim Habash, requesting the Arab Federation to address the member federations to include the Palestinian player in the local Arab leagues and adopt them as local players in them.
Based on the Palestinian Federation’s letter to its Arab counterpart, the Arab Basketball Federation sent a letter to the local federations in this regard, so that the Yemeni Federation is the first to adopt the Palestinian player as a local player.
