Morocco’s Olympic team defeats Egypt and is crowned African football champion

SMA NEWS – RABAT
The Moroccan Olympic team was crowned champion of the U-23 African Cup of Nations, after defeating its Egyptian guest, 2-1, on Saturday, at Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, in the final match of the tournament that qualifies for “Paris Olympic Games 2024”.

The Pharaohs advanced with a goal by Mahmoud Saber in the tenth minute, before the same player was sent off after scoring the goal 8 minutes later, by decision of the match referee after the intervention of video technology (VAR).

Morocco was able to return to the score with the equalizer through its player, Yannis El Bakraoui, in the 36th minute.

The match extended to two additional halves, as the Atlas Lions were able to snatch the deadly winning goal through Osama Tergalin in the 105th minute.

The Atlas Lions prevented the Egyptian national team from preserving its title, which it won 4 years ago in Cairo, so that its supporters celebrated the cup and the ticket to the “Paris 2024” Olympics, accompanied by the Pharaohs and the Eagles of Mali (third).
