Saudi Al-Hilal Ranks 4th in the Club World Cup

 

 

Al Hilal team settled as the 4th in the Club World Cup tournament after it lost to Monterrey, the Mexican rival, in a shoot-out from the penalty spot, 4-3.

The match ended in a tie, to be judged on the shoot-out that went, in favor of Monterrey.

Brazilian Carlos Eduardo found the back of the net, with a goal for Al-Hilal in the 35th minute, then Arturo Gonzalez tied for Monterrey, in the 55th minute before Maximiliano Mesa added the second goal for Monterrey, in the 60th minute.

However, French substitute Bafétimbi Gomis, dubbed the Lion, equalized for Al-Hilal, in the 65th minute, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

In stoppage time of the match, Gomis was almost about to snatch the victory goal for Al-Hilal, with a great header, but Monterrey goalkeeper turned the ball with his fingertips into a corner, in magnificent save, amid total control of the Saudi team over the course of the game.

The last moments saw two other opportunities for the team by Gomis to score, but unluckily, while the first attempt hit the post the second passed directly next to the side-netting.

Finally, the two teams turned over to the penalty-spot shoot-out, following the whistle, that was ultimately and unluckily, in favor of Monterrey 4-3.
